This is a vintage tube radio I bought off eBay, refurbished and gave to my wife as a birthday present. It's a 5-tube, 1937 Emerson AL130. A small PCB AM transmitter was built from scratch and clips to the radio's antenna. This effectively gives the radio a 1/8" audio-in that can be connected to any device (like the iPod Shuffle I used here). As an added bonus, I pre-loaded the MP3 player with over 8 hours of radio programming (music, drama, commercials, and war-time news bulletins, etc.) from 1937-1950. The Shuffle is perfectly suited for this task since it is a simple On/Off operation and randomly runs through the play list just like a DJ would.
